Paddock Club Magazine
The Formula 1 Paddock Club is the official exclusive VIP hospitality for every F1 Grand Prix. The brief was to design a magazine that could hold interesting articles and facts about Formula 1 , as well as using it as a way to advertise the Paddock Club experience.
I was very lucky to work closely on this with an ambitious creative team. As the sole designer from start to finish, my aim was to display the content of the articles and information in the most clear way, but also be reflective of the high standard that visitors to the Paddock Club have grown to expect.
The plan was to introduce the magazine to airport business lounges across the globe, but unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the magazine was made digital.
FRONT AND BACK COVER
I've found working on F1 always enjoyable—not least for the incredible bank of imagery they hold. Above show two variations on the front and back cover for the magazine, using a more abstract piece of photography.
ARTICLE TITLE PAGES
There were four articles in total within the magazine, that each had their own look and feel for the title page. Each one used their own imagery and played with the F1 proprietary font. Throughout the magazine we used a gold colour, taken from the Paddock Club's core branding.
The articles themselves were set to a specific grid, that I was then able to design around. I used textures on gold backgrounds throughout the magazine, and particularly to pull out certain information within an article.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREADS
There are a few instances within the magazine were content was punctuated by full page imagery, that I worked into. In the example above, for instance, I was able to comp in a headline to make it feel as if it is part of the image.
Infographics take up a large portion of the magazine, and essentially lay out facts about the paddock club, as well as listing out all of the F1 Grand Prix races. A lot of time went into crafting these pages to ensure that the information came across in the simplest and most visually engaging way.
